Alsike Clover is a short-lived perennial cool-season crop lasting 2-3 years with a deep taproot and growing 24 to 36 inches tall. It does well on low, poorly drained soil and tolerates more alkalinity than most other clovers. Alsike Clover will tolerate flooding for longer periods, but it may be killed out if drought periods become prolonged. Alsike Clover is an extremely winter hardy perennial clover. A legume that is more adaptable to a variety of soil types and is extremely easy to grow in almost any condition. It is easy to establish where there is minimal soil preparation, but must be seeded shallowly. Alsike has poor shade tolerance and is intolerant to drought and high temperatures.

    Poor results

    Posted by dborkowski74@gmail.com on Jul 11th 2018

I purchased this product for the sole purpose of planting it in a poor drainage area. Soil was prepped and sprayed properly. Tested ph at 6.7. We have had a tremendous growing year in Illinois- hot and rainy. All other plots are tremendous. The plot I planted this product in came up about 2” , stopped growing and even started dying off. I have an isolated spot fenced in where deer cannot reach the clover and it looks the same as the rest of the plot. Now I have to wait till late summer , spray, retill and replant.

    No germination

I needed to rotate my food plot as it has been in corn for a couple of years. Clover would be good way to re-balance the soil. I researched clover to find out what would work best in clay with wet conditions. Alsike clover was what was recommended. I planted per the instructions but have very little germination. I don't know if was just the seed I got here or if Alsike simply won't grow at this location but I'll be discing this under and replanting this food plot later in the year. I have several other food plots on this 70 acres (including different clover) and never had complete germination failure. The shipping was fine and the price was good. I'm sure the company is good but the seed I got simply failed.

    Alsike Clover and others

Very happy with my purchase from merit seed. They offer excellent quality seed packed in the volume I need. Put a nice 1 acre plot in a creek bottom with good soil, but poor drainage. Read all of the seed characteristics and chose a few clovers to try, but went with mostly Alsike. The clover has taken off and right now is with standing some wet conditions and thriving. The deer are mowing it down. I love the ability to pick and chose from what merit has to offer and develop my own blends. Very satisfied. Randy from central NY
