Sugar Beets are a warm season crop that grow slowly and produces very large sugary taproot. Sugar content is dependent on the amount of vegetative growth, but can be as high as 18%. Deer love the foliage and the roots which are both very nutritional. Seed when ground temperatures reach 55 degrees or higher. Sugar Beet crops like good soil with a limited amount of nitrogen to allow adequate root growth.
